Distribution of Molluscs in the Eastern Persian Gulf, PG-GOOS Cruise
Distribution of molluscs in the eastern part of the Persian Gulf were studied during the PG-GOOS cruise (Oct-Nov 2012), using the 250 cm2 Van Veen grab for sampling. Sixty gastropod and 23 bivalve taxa in addition to one scaphopod taxon were identified. Gastropods constituted 80% of molluscs. The abundance of molluscs averaged 1398.36 (±261.95) ind./m2. Costellaria sp. was the most abundant ...
متن کاملMasters of longevity: lessons from long-lived bivalves--a mini-review.
The individual ages of bivalve molluscs can be inferred from the age rings laid down every year in the shell, especially in species inhabiting areas with seasonal variability in environmental factors such as food supply and temperature. Animals obtained from different environmental settings can therefore be used to investigate how specific environmental factors shape the process of ageing in th...
متن کاملAPPLICATIONS OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IN STABILITY INDEX AND CRITICAL LENGTH IN AVALANCHE DYNAMICS
In this study, Stability analysis of snow slab which is under detonation has developed in the present model. The model has been studied by using the basic concepts of non-detonation model and concepts of underwater explosions with appropriate modifications to the present studies. The studies have also been extended to account the effect of critical length variations at the time of detonation an...
متن کاملMulti-scale distribution and dynamics of bivalve larvae in a deep atoll lagoon (Ahe, French Polynesia).
Bivalve larvae and hydrographic parameters were sampled over a range of spatio-temporal scales in a deep atoll lagoon. Bivalve larvae abundances were very high throughout the year: 18,550 m(-3) in average. Larvae were (i) concentrated at mid-depth with nocturnal ascent and diurnal descent, (ii) heterogeneously dispersed at the lagoon scale, (iii) subject to day-to-day variation in abundance and...
متن کاملPhylogeography and conservation genetics of endangered European Margaritiferidae (Bivalvia: Unionoidea)
Margaritifera margaritifera and M. auricularia are among the most endangered freshwater mussels in the world, and the only species of the genus found in Europe. Our genetic study explores allozymic variability (27 loci) and differentiation at the mitochondrial sequence level (partial COI and 16S rRNA gene sequences). The Spanish M. auricularia population showed genetic parameters of variation t...
